Jul 13: A-ni-ooooo! and Taekwondo.....

ready stance now!

Taekwondo is official martial arts of Korea- so switch your feet! Its a fast pace style that is about quick strikes, being agile and quick take-downs. Our instructor, Kim, spoke perfect English and actually studied at UC Davis with a degree in physical therapy. He told me that he visited Los Angeles eight years ago to see friends and family.

"You know what was the first thing I ate when I got to LA..."
("What?")
"Bibimap and kimchi..."
("Haha, so you were in Koreatown...")
"For a moment I was like, is this LA?"

me getting taken down by Eugene (Russia); Nancy (white/green) and Lana (pink/purple) practicing defense...

greetings...

For our Language Class, it was the first time that our student volunteers were asked not to be there. Our instructor wanted to see us adapt more quickly to Korea expression without or stand-by translator. It was more fun because now their were more facial expressions than ever before. Not just confused faces but more "oh %$#@!" I got it! Still difficult, we all agreed that it was about practice. Our class loves to yell A-ni-ooo! (which means "no"). But here's a few expressions we learned when it comes to greeting a person and then leaving...

Ko-sa-ham-ni-da (Thank you)....this took awhile for me to pronounce right!

Ch'eon-man-e-yo (you're welcome)

keu-rae-yo? (really)

Na-jung-e (Later)

well deserved meal... its only 5 dollars each!
